Merry Christmas! I hope you all had a great holiday with family and friends and warmth and love! We had our traditional family slumber party on the living room floor on Christmas Eve and early morning, blurry eyed opening of gifts on Christmas morning. We had a grand time. The kids were thrilled with all of their gifts and that made us so happy. We had a relaxed morning making French pressed coffee, pancakes and visiting. After all the bedding and wrapping was cleared and dishes done, we had a relaxed morning playing with the kids and getting ready for company to come in the afternoon.
As I was picking up wrapping paper and putting new gifts away, I was so thankful. Thankful that we have reached this place that feels really good for us. A place of enough. Where there is enough but not all the stress and excess of the holidays. We set a budget and kept it. We got really meaningful gifts that worked for us and our lifestyle and it felt so amazing. We have done this for several years now where we have done gifts by this little rhyme. You may have already heard it floating around pinterest or on another blog somewhere. It says, “Something they want, Something they need, Something to wear, and Something to read.” I cannot recommend it enough! It has relieved all the questions of, “Is it enough?” “Is it too much?” and “What do I buy?????” I love it because it gives the kids enough gifts to open but only one toy each. And you know what? They are perfectly happy! That’s all they can really focus on anyways. It creates the joy of the toy but not the overwhelm of lots of toys and they get other gifts too that they love as well, they just aren’t toys. I have found that it is an amazing balance for us!
Here’s to hoping you all are finding balance and joy in all the little things and big things too!
Simply,
Grace
