Habit shift: Drying dishes
Hello, Beautiful people!
As always, I want to share with you the things that are inspiring me and working for me in my life and hope that you can find some helpful things along the way.
We don’t own a dishwasher in our house so all the dishes must be handwashed. Recently we have transitioned the children into doing most of the dishes after meals and so to help monitor it and make sure everything gets cleaned properly, I started drying dishes while they wash and rinse. I’ve never been one to dry dishes and I don’t remember ever doing it growing up either. I’ve always washed the dishes and left them to dry until the next meal but in doing that, you leave a step that still has to be done next time you do dishes! Put dishes away, then wash and rinse. I never knew how much leaving the dishes in the drainer cluttered up my small kitchen until I started drying and putting them away. Now, it’s all ready next time we need to do dishes and it is so amazing! It only takes a few minutes to do and makes such a difference in our routine and in our kitchen as well. Another thing I enjoy about it is that it makes it a family effort and I love working alongside the kids as we all do chores and they enjoy it as well.
I have been super stoked about how much this simple change has enhanced our life and thought I would share in case any of you handwash dishes as well!
Until next time,
Grace
